side note: I do wish that the Cabaret would change their logo font. It is just too cutesy.

david pearson + penguin books

The amount of thought that goes into the Penguin covers, spines and series just boggles my mind. So so so beautiful. David Pearson is a current designer for many of their new covers. He features his own as well as old covers on his wonderfully simple site.

amy bennett

When I first saw Amy Bennett's paintings I thought they were photographs ... similar to the pictures of miniatures featured here, here, and here. Her style is nostalgic + idyllic + a tiny bit dark. I really like them all.

they might be giants

Our awesome new neighbors introduced us to They Might Be Giants, Here Come the ABCs. We are up to over 70 plays on the above song in iTunes. My favorite is hearing D sing "an epidemic of missing letters". I love that the bizarreness of TMBG translates so well into kid's music. And I also love that they are using it for teaching. They have a Here Comes the 123s and a Here Comes Science.

All of the pictures in this Flickr set could be my grandparents. I need to start scanning my Mom's photo library.

I especially love in the picture above the look of the guy on the right. Makes me think that not much has changed in 80 years.

stratford hall plantation

An old family friend is on the board of directors at Stratford Hall. When she called for help with their advertising I had no idea what it was or why it was important. Set on cliffs overlooking the Potomac in northeast Virginia, Stratford Hall was the Lee family plantation. Robert E. Lee being the most famous. But his ancestors, Francis Lightfoot and Richard Henry, signed the Declaration of Independence. This property is yet another of the amazing historical gems in Virginia.

Like many other non-profits, Stratford Hall is hurting with this awful economy. Our friend Kathy has commissioned a friend to create beautiful, one of a kind jewelry in honor of the Lee crest (a squirrel sits at the top). Our ads feature the jewels and will run nationwide in gardening magazines.
