St Petersburg State Academic Institute for Painting, Sculpture and Architecture is hosting an International Exhibition of Calligraphy. And because most of us won't be anywhere near Russia September 16th - 21st, you can peruse many beautiful examples on the website. Be sure to check out the student work, too. Really really good stuff.

While researching for Friday's post about Frank Chimero I came across Advice to Sink in Slowly. It is a project that was first piloted at University College Falmouth in 2006 when 24 posters were given to 300 students enrolling on visual arts based courses at the college. The project has since expanded with more posters and more schools. Between Frank's inspirational design posters and these advice posters, you can wallpaper a whole room with all the right stuff for perfect creativity.

I have blogged about Frank Chimero before. He is a graphic designer out of Chicago. His States posters are so cool. I keep waiting for "Georgia". And his Inspirational Design Posters are collectibles. They have been all over the world wide web lately.
Check out Frank's Flickr. You can see all of the above plus some wonderful pics from The Field Museum and more of his illustration.

My lovely friend Diana of Wine Goddess Consulting is amazingly talented. She is also incredibly funny, which makes for a fun evening whether you're drinking wine of not. Be sure to check out her "Cheap n' Good Wine List" featuring wines less than $20.
Diana recently sent us a new client. Taste It! is a wine store opening soon in Wheaton, IL. Just like the name suggests, you will be able to try every wine they carry. The thought being that if you like it, you'll buy it (or just walk out really really tipsy). They have been sitting with the same logo for almost ten years and Diana suggested that they look at changing it.
Here is their original:
And here is where they have ended up:
We LOVE what they picked. Fresh, modern and approachable.
And here is everything else we sent:
I call the ones on the left "The Williams Sonoma" logos. The one in the middle "The Saul Bass" logo. And the ones on the right are updated versions of their old logo. They had quite a heart for the old one and we thought it would be smart to give them newer versions.

Keri Smith is a freelance illustrator and author out of NY. I totally want to be friends with her. She has a new book out, How To Be An Explorer of the World. It is full of wonderful truths and hints about the creative process. You can see a sneak peak of the book here. Keri's blog is beautifully written. I was particularly taken with her excerpt: On Motherhood. She captures exactly what it feels like in a matter of a few paragraphs.
And if you have even more time, check out her Flickr sets. Great ideas and vibrant color.

A little something to get y'all through the weekend
Colie Parks is a photographer living in Orlando, FL. She takes massive amounts of Polaroids and posts them to her Flickr site. They are beautiful. Both of these are from her Adventures in FLA set.

We have been on vacation for a week and a half. And we returned home to a flooded basement and projects that need to be finished. I promise to post more next week.
In the meantime, we had a great time in the North Woods and Chi-town. Living in the desert makes me appreciate water so much more! This pic is from a wonderful morning at a beach in Rogers Park with very missed friends.
